After much anticipation and more than six months with its doors closed, a prominent restaurant in the Golden Triangle area of Norwich will reopen today.

The Last Brasserie, as it will be known, was formally titled 103 Unthank Road. It is run by owners of Norwich's Last Wine bar, which is located in St George Street. The wine bar is already a very popular favourite in the area, and it's been open since 1990.

The site of the new brasserie always was a brasserie - until it had to close down unexpectedly last year. It was only open two years and was opened by award-winning chefs Brendan Ansbro and Sam Hanison. The unexpected closure caused many locals to worry about the effects this would have on the area. The Golden Triangle is currently a very prominent area of Norwich, with many visitors every single week giving restaurants the opportunity to thrive during and since the recession.

However, after just six months, the new owners have refurbished the brasserie to look stylish and slick. They have increased the number of tables in the brasserie and also built a small bar.

The owner, Mr Sawry-Cookson, commented on the excellent news that the brasserie would reopen, “We are very excited to finally be opening the doors to the new Brasserie...Unthank Road is the ideal location for our second Norwich restaurant, and we believe the informal but quality offering will be just right for the area. The Golden Triangle has a cosmopolitan mix of people. We have designed the Brasserie to reflect this mix, with a stylish interior with cream leather banquettes, as well as a number of tables outside for those sunny days. We can’t wait to open our long-awaited venture in Unthank Road next Monday.”

The brasserie offers excellent opportunity to the area, which is striving despite the effects of the recent recession, which has forced many restaurants and pubs around the UK to close due to financial hardship. The lack of funding that many banks have given to small businesses has meant that much of the hospitality industry has had to either downsize or close their doors completely.

The new brasserie, which is going to open in the Golden Triangle, will take advantage of the passing trade as it will be opening its doors from 8 AM until late at night. They are expected to offer everything from breakfasts through to coffee and cakes, lunch and then dinner. Chef Lewis Peck will be taking charge of the kitchen area and aims to offer a mix of brasserie style dishes as well as grill plates.

_The Elm Tree in Elmton was declared Derbyshire’s pub of the year, and many can see why it won this award.

Firstly, all staff are well trained and offer a warm welcome to make an instant impression on visitors. This is important, as the staff are the ones that can make or break a visit to a pub.

The pub also has a good selection of drinks, from hand pulled ales to cider, catering for all tastes.

At Christmas, the decorations are very festive and you can tell a lot of thought has gone into making the place look good.

The food is also good. They serve a soup of the day for only £4.50 with fresh homemade bread. The main meals are also reasonably priced. The food comes out on wooden boards, ideal for a winter’s evening when you want something rustic and homemade.

To get a pub in tip top condition like this, many landlords need to look at pub finance solutions to raise the funds required for development. Like the pub mentioned here, it is important to create the right atmosphere as well as setting prices reasonably. You should aim to train staff, chefs and bar managers regularly so that the customers can receive the best service possible.

It can be difficult to know how to finance all of this. Getting a loan is your best option. Pub loans can be difficult to come by, but you need to persevere and try several banks as well as alternative lenders like online lenders.

You might consider a merchant cash advance, an alternative to a traditional bank loan. This gives the borrower the chance to pay the loan off through credit and debit card payments, where a percentage of that payment is sent straight to the loan company to repay the advance.

The money gained from a loan can go towards vital business plans which hopefully should keep some of our pubs open, like the Elm tree which sees a lot of custom. Without financial backing, pubs may have to close down. According to a report from the British Beer & Pub Association, around 1,300 pubs closed across Britain last year due to this very reason – lack of money.

Chief executive Brigid Simmonds commented on this figure, “The closure of 25 pubs every week is bad news for the economy, as the sector plays such a vital role. With the right policies, this vital part of our tourism and hospitality sector could be creating new jobs, and helping to bring Britain out of recession.”

Hotels can be costly to run and as such you may not have much disposable income to ensure your hotel is kept in good condition. You should regularly try and reinvent your hotel so that it does not become outdated. This is vital for your customers’ experiences. The nicer the environment, the more likely they are to stay with you again. If you don’t have the money, you could always try applying for a hotel business loan to tide you over. Here are some key areas you should consider;

1. The main foyer. The foyer says everything about your hotel. It sets the tone, delivers a message and represents the whole building. Making sure the foyer is up to scratch is vital. To make your foyer look bigger, add large mirrors behind the desk. For an eye catching statement, make the reception desk bold and inviting. Leather sofas are a nice touch, and it is likely they will be used too. You should try and incorporate a luggage room for your guests’ luggage. This is a helpful service for many customers who want to ensure their luggage is in a safe place.

2. The bedrooms. No greater inspection will be carried out by your customers than in the bedrooms. Because this is what the customers judge their stay on, bedrooms must be regularly renovated and kept in pristine condition. This includes the beds. Buy new beds every few years and change the mattress often. This ensures your guests have a good night’s sleep.
You should also ensure the curtains are of a high quality. The guests you may have staying at your hotel may be sleeping at any time of the day or night, be it for business or other purposes. This means that even in the middle of the day the room must stay dark. Curtains should be heavy and regularly cleaned so as to avoid dust and grime build up.

3. Lighting. Lighting is very influential in a hotel; it can create atmosphere and presence. Make sure there are plenty of lamps and up lighters around. This can make for great visual effect as well as being practical.

4. Bathrooms. Probably one of the most expensive rooms to refurbish, but bathrooms are very important. Clean, modern and well fitted bath fittings are essential. Try not to go for off the wall colours, sticking to white will be a better choice!
